Toyota Hilux N70 2005 to 2015 Body Lift Installation Guide
This guide covers fitting a Flatout Offroad 50mm / 2-inch body lift kit to a Toyota Hilux N70, including lifting the cab and tub/tray. Covering years 2005 to 2015.
Kit contents: 12 body lift blocks, the required fasteners and a steering shaft extension. Optional extras, Radiator drop brackets, intake extension and shifter extension.
Installation time: Allow 6-10 hours with two people. If you’ve installed a body lift before, expect around 6 hours. For your first installation, allow closer to 10 hours. This time can change based on other existing mods done on the vehicle.
These instructions are a guide only. If you are unsure about any part of the installation, use a qualified mechanic.
Parts:
- N70 Hilux Body Lift kit
- N70 Intake extension
- N70 Radiator Drop brackets
- N70 Steering extension
- Shifter extension
Before you start
Check that you have the correct kit and all required components before dismantling the vehicle. Additional radiator, brake-line and bumper brackets, along with fuel-filler extensions, may be required.
Have suitable sockets and spanners, a torque wrench, penetrating oil, trim tools, wheel chocks, and lifting and support equipment rated for the work.
Never work beneath a cab or tray supported only by a jack. Use suitable supports and keep your hands clear of the body mounts while raising or lowering the body.
Applying penetrating oil to accessible body-mount fasteners ahead of installation can help with removal.
Step 1: Park and secure the vehicle
Park on a firm, level surface with enough room to work around the truck. Apply the handbrake and chock the wheels.
Centre the steering wheel, switch off the ignition and disconnect the battery. Follow Toyota’s specified battery-disconnection procedure and waiting period before working near steering or electrical components.
Step 2: Prepare the grille and front bumper
Remove the grille and disconnect the fog-light wiring, if fitted.
Release the four metal bumper support brackets so they do not restrict movement during the lift. These will need to be repositioned later to suit the new body height.
Check aftermarket bumpers, bull bars and accessories for additional attachments between the body and chassis.
Step 3: Release engine-bay brackets and hoses
Release the air-conditioning support bracket attached to the body. Do not disconnect or open any refrigerant lines.
Unclip the breather hoses from their bracket on the passenger side of the engine bay.
Check the airbox and intake connections, releasing any attachments that would prevent the body from lifting independently of the engine. Protect any open intake connections from dirt.
Release the wiring-harness brackets around the engine mount, oil filter and manifold on the left-hand side of the engine, as applicable. Keep the fasteners for refitting.
Step 4: Release the radiator
Remove the four mounting bolts from the radiator support panel.
Keep the radiator securely supported in its lower position. Do not allow its weight to hang from the hoses or allow the fan to contact the radiator or shroud.
Step 5: Prepare the steering shaft
Secure the centered steering wheel so it cannot rotate while the steering shaft is disconnected.
Mark the steering-joint alignment before undoing the steering clamp bolt.
Do not allow the steering shaft to bind or pull apart unexpectedly as the cab is raised. The image below marks where the supplied steering shaft extension will be installed.

Step 6: Access the cab mounting bolts
Remove the front driver and passenger kick panels and door-sill trims. Carefully peel back the carpet to expose the front cab mounting bolts.
Remove the rear door-sill trims and any necessary seat-belt trim covers to access the rear cab mounting bolts.
Keep the trim clips and fasteners together for reassembly.
Step 7: Release brake-line brackets and inner guards
Unbolt the brake-line support brackets attached to the chassis on both sides of the vehicle. Do not disconnect the hydraulic brake lines.
Release the inner-guard plastic clips where they would restrict movement. The original arrangement has four relevant clips: two on each side.
Step 8: Release fuel-line and crossmember attachments
Release the fuel-line support brackets along the passenger side of the chassis where needed.
Unclip the wiring harness and hoses attached to the drive shaft crossmember that could become tight during lifting.
Check for any other connections between the cab, tray and chassis before proceeding. Aftermarket wiring, Diff breather lines etc.
Step 9: Prepare the fuel filler and breather hoses
Remove the fuel cap and rear passenger-side inner guard to access the filler assembly.
Release the filler-neck support bolt, hose clamps and relevant hose connections. Protect all open connections from contamination.
The fuel filler and breather arrangement needs enough additional length to accommodate the 50mm tray lift. It can sometimes be adjusted to suit. If not you can use our fuel filler extension. If you have already purchased this, you can cut the fuel filler and insert the supplied extension to gain the extra length.
Remove any modified components from the vehicle and ensure they are completely free of swarf or debris before refitting.
Step 10: Prepare the cab mounting bolts
Remove the passenger-side cab mounting bolts, washers and nuts. Record the position and order of the original mounting hardware.
Loosen all cab mounting bolts on the driver’s side, don't remove them completely. This is so the body stays aligned with the holes and doesn’t slip off its mounts when lifted.
Retain the factory washers. The washers under the factory bolt heads of the cab bolts need to be retained. The best way to remove these is to get a deep socket that goes over the bolt head, then hit it with a hammer. The factory washers should pop off. Reuse these washers on the new cab bolts supplied in the body lift kit.
Step 11: Lift the passenger side of the cab
Position suitable lifting equipment beneath a structurally sound lifting point, using a timber plank or similar to distribute the load and protect the body from damage.
Raise the passenger side slowly, only far enough to insert the lift blocks.
Have a second person watch the steering shaft, radiator, intake, brake lines, wiring, hoses and cables throughout the lift. Stop immediately if anything becomes tight or catches. If the body resists, tilts unexpectedly or pulls a component tight, stop and find the cause. Do not use extra lifting force to overcome an obstruction.
Place the lift blocks between the cab and the factory rubber body-mount bushes. Retain the original bushes, sleeves and mounting hardware in the original positions.
Install the longer bolts with the factory washers as discussed above. Leave the bolts loose enough to allow alignment.
Step 12: Lift the driver’s side of the cab
Lower the passenger side onto its blocks, keeping the new bolts loosely engaged.
Repeat the process on the driver’s side, raising the cab only enough to install the remaining blocks and bolts.
Check that every block sits squarely and that no bushes, sleeves or washers have moved out of position.
Step 13: Align and secure the cab
Check that the cab is correctly positioned on the chassis and that all mounting bolts pass through their mounts without being forced.
Tighten all the mounting bolts.
Step 14: Lift the tray
The factory rear bumper does not normally need to be removed, but check that it and any accessories will not restrict tray movement.
Locate all tray mounting bolts. Loosen the driver’s-side bolts but leave them engaged, then remove the passenger-side bolts.
Using suitable lifting equipment and supports, carefully raise the passenger side of the tray. Check the fuel filler, breathers, wiring and other attachments as it rises.
Install the blocks and longer bolts, leaving them loosely fitted. Lower the tray onto the blocks and repeat on the driver’s side.
Once all blocks are installed, check the tray alignment and cab-to-tray clearance. Tighten the bolts.
Step 15: Complete the steering-extension installation
Install the steering extension in the location shown above, using the alignment marks made earlier to make sure the steering shaft remains alligned.
Before driving, confirm that the steering operates smoothly through its full range without binding or contacting nearby components.
Step 16: Reposition the radiator
Fit radiator drop brackets to keep the radiator and fan shroud correctly positioned relative to the engine-driven fan.
Secure the radiator, then check fan-to-shroud clearance and make sure the coolant and power-steering hoses are not stretched, kinked or rubbing.
Step 17: Fit the intake extension
Fit the Hilux N70 intake extension if purchased with the kit. This is fitted to the turbo side of the intake at the bottom as marked in the image below. Its usually easier to remove the intake hose completely to fit this. Take care not to let any debris all into the intake.

Step 17: Reconnect the fuel filler and breathers
Refit the extended fuel-filler and breather connections.
Check that the hoses have adequate engagement, the clamps are secure, and there are no kinks, leaks or contact with sharp edges.
Secure the filler assembly, refit the inner guard and reinstall the fuel cap.
Step 18: Refit brackets, wiring and trim
Refit or relocate all brackets, hoses and wiring released during installation, including:
-
Brake-line supports.
-
Fuel-line supports.
-
Engine-bay wiring brackets and breather hoses.
-
Air-conditioning support bracket.
-
Airbox and intake connections.
-
Crossmember wiring and hoses.
-
Front bumper supports and fog-light wiring.
Check that all connections have enough clearance and freedom of movement.
Refit the grille, inner guards, carpet/vinyl and interior trim.
Step 19: Complete the final checks
Before reconnecting the battery and starting the engine, check that:
-
All cab and tray bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
-
All lift blocks and body-mount bushes are seated correctly.
-
Steering joints and extension fasteners are secure.
-
Brake lines, fuel lines, wiring and hoses are properly supported.
-
The radiator is secure and the fan clears the shroud.
-
The intake system is fully reassembled.
-
The gear and transfer levers operate without interference.
-
The handbrake operates correctly and is adjusted if required.
-
All tools and loose parts have been removed.
Reconnect the battery following Toyota’s procedure. Start the engine and check for leaks, unusual noises or contact around the fan and shroud.
Have any unresolved issues checked before driving.
After installation
Once all checks are complete and the vehicle is safe and permitted to drive, carry out a short, controlled test drive.
Recheck the body and tray mounting fasteners, steering-extension fasteners, brackets and hose connections afterwards.
